The Ecuadorian Andes are formed by many active and inactive volcanoes; some of them are snow capped and have beautiful glaciers. Ecuador has many high volcanoes that are known worldwide, such as Cotopaxi (5,897mts or 19,350ft), Chimborazo (6,310mts or 20,702ft), Cayambe (5,790mt or 18,996ft), North and South Ilinizas (5,305mts or 17,267ft), Antisana (5,704mts or 18,713ft), among others.
The Andes are very rich in flora and fauna with many species that are unique in the world. In this extended area, there are forests with singular biodiversity, such us Polylepis (paper tree) forests, biodiversity hot spots, special cloud forests where you can find many bird species, being the one of the best places in the world for bird watching. |
